Mila and Marko

Ten-year-old Mila grew up abroad and loves comic books and superhero stories. When her parents decide to move back to their hometown of Gabrovo, Mila is in shock! She has never been to Bulgaria and will have to get used to a completely new place. Luckily, by chance, Mila manages to summon the spirit of the ancient Balkan superhero Krali Marko to help her with this new challenge.

Marko becomes Mila’s heroic mentor and must pass on to her all his knowledge of the ancient rules of heroism. However, his approach is a few centuries out of date and is better suited to battling Balkan dragons than to the challenges of the modern world. And so begins Mila’s heroic new life—every day brings a new heroic challenge, which, with Marko’s help, will quickly turn into a fantastic and fun adventure!

"Mila and Marko" was created with the support of the National Culture Fund's one-year grant program in 2020. In 2021, "Mila and Marko" received a shared award for best project in development at the Balkan Pitching Forum in Thessaloniki, Greece.

In late 2025, Studio Zmei began production on “Mila and Marko: Mini-Episodes!” with support from the National Film Center and the National Culture Fund. In addition to the mini-episodes, which will be ready in 2026, Studio Zmei is also working on an educational series featuring Mila and Marko, which will be announced at a later date.
