Vihra and the Golden Apple
Vihra wants to break the rigid traditions of her town by reviving centuries-old magical folklore, which turns out to be surprisingly inspiring and bright, yet dangerously dark. “The Golden Apple” (also presented as “Vihra and the Golden Apple”) began as a project for a comedic animated action-adventure series, consisting of 13 episodes, each 26 minutes long—an animated fairy tale based on the rich Balkan folklore.
It was precisely the desire to bring “The Golden Apple” to life that led to the establishing of Studio Zmei in 2016. After several years of research, two successful crowdfunding campaigns, several short films set in the “Golden Apple” universe, a few books, tours, and countless presentations, our evolving project has garnered over 45,000 followers on social media and a very active fan base in Bulgaria and the Balkans.
In 2019, the French company Dandelooo became the official majority co-producer, which provided additional funding. Starting in 2020, “The Golden Apple” officially became “Vihra and The Golden Apple” and continued its development. Work on the production has not stopped, and we hope that in 2026–2027 we will be able to share more about what we have achieved over the years.
